Common FAQs
NeurOptimal® brain training may seem complex if you don’t know anything about it. Yet, it’s quite simple to understand with the proper guidance. Here are some of the most common questions answered below.
How Does NeurOptimal® Work?
NeurOptimal® brain training is like holding a mirror up to your brain. If you have not seen yourself in a while, you will naturally start making adjustments because the mirror provides the information you need to correct yourself. The brain has a unique ability to regulate itself when granted the right information.
What Does the Static Mean?
Any abrupt alterations in the electrical activity of the brain will hinder the optimal functioning of the brain. NeurOptimal® detects abrupt changes and signals the brain to regulate them via small interruptions in the music. Over time, the brain will naturally correct itself and the brain will function more efficiently and effectively.
What Does a Session Look Like?
You will sit in a cozy, private area when you arrive at our office. We will then attach two sensors to the crown of your head and three sensors to your ears. You will also receive a set of headphones to listen to music during the 33-minute session.
Can I Go On My Phone?
Throughout the duration of the session you can sleep, read a magazine, scroll on your phone or watch a movie. Feel free to do whatever you want; you simply have to remain seated.
Moreover, there will be micro interruptions in the music when your brain veers off track. These interruptions redirect your brain back to the present. If at any time you require assistance, Suzanne or one of her assistants will be available to help.
How Long Does It Take to See Progress?
It depends on factors such as your age, what is going on in the present and what happened in the past. Progress usually occurs much faster for children.
Does NeurOptimal® Have Side Effects?
Every brain works differently and depending on the amount of trauma you have endured throughout your life, it is possible to experience headaches and an influx of emotions. If these symptoms do occur, remember that they are normal functions of your brain adapting to the neurofeedback. The benefits far outweigh the side effects.
Does Neurofeedback Hurt?
NeurOptimal® neurofeedback is pain-free and calming. Some clients even fall asleep. Nothing is shocking your brain or causing notable discomfort. Headaches can be experienced though.
Does NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback Effect Medicine Dosage?
As you experiences gradual changes with neurofeedback brain training, your brain will begin to work more efficiently on its own. You may need to adjust your medication dosage in accordance with the progress you see.
Is a Signal Sent Through Your Brain?
The sensors act as stethoscopes and no signal goes through the brain. Neurofeedback is a non-invasive method of brain training that’s proven to be safe and effective.
Are the Changes Lasting?
Neurofeedback is equivalent to learning how to play a sport. Although you build muscle memory over time, your muscles can become tight or lose strength and endurance. This is why it’s good to start light and incorporate flexibility and mobility exercises into your routine to avoid injury.
Whether you do sessions once a month or once a week, you brain will remember how to regulate itself and work more efficiently. A few brain training sessions can help you to get back on track when day-to-day stressors present themselves.
